Robbie Robertson was a Canadian musician, songwriter, film composer, producer, actor, and author best known as the lead guitarist and primary songwriter for The Band. Born in Toronto to a Mohawk and Cayuga mother and a Jewish father, Robertson's music draws from a rich tapestry of American roots music, including rhythm and blues, country, folk, and Native American traditions. After The Band disbanded in 1976, Robertson embarked on a successful solo career, collaborating with artists like Daniel Lanois and U2, while also becoming a notable film composer, frequently working with director Martin Scorsese.
